Turn Beauty Inside Out
|
|
On Wednesday, July 18 at 4:30 The Bedford Free
Library and "the be line" present a mother-daughter
event to celebrate Inner Beauty, for girls 9-12 years
old. Constantly bombarded by media images, it's
important for girls to have a definition of beauty that
focuses on who they are and what they do, not on how
they look.
Hear a special reading by local entrepreneur,
Wendy Hopkins, of Wendy's Closet, share your ideas
about what makes someone "beautiful", create a
special art
piece about what makes you beautiful, have pizza and
hang out! Mom can't make it? Bring your aunt, sister,
cousin, best friend! Goodie bags for all!
Space is limited, please call the Library to reserve
your spot: 914-234-3570.

The Katonah Museum of Art's
Learning Center is
turning 10 this year!
In the 10 years since its founding the Katonah
Museum of Art's Learning Center has welcomed more
than 200,000 children who have played games,
drawn, painted, sculpted, glued, and giggled while
creating art in this vibrant space. Original art work by
thirty-three gifted picture book artists have been
exhibited, and for the past eight years handmade
books, sculptures, drawings, and collages created by
individuals, groups, and entire classes who have
visited the Museum have had the opportunity to
showcase their work in a museum setting.
As soon as it opened the Learning
Center attracted an enthusiastic audience and over
the years this small workshop space has more than
fulfilled expectations. The Learning Center exhibitions
program has expanded to include the work of
important children's book illustrators as well as art
created by students of many ages.
Things to do in the Learning Center include
simple book-making projects, creating art in the style
of illustrators on view including Eric Carle collage,
pop-up characters in a setting, self-portraits, and
making
stars are just a few of the hands-on activities. We
have illustrator activity cards for each Learning Center
artist that includes a matching game, project ideas,
plus information on the artist. Activities in the galleries
include a family guide and hunt sheets.
As we light our ten candles, The
Katonah Museum of Art rekindles its commitment to
inspire each new generation of art enthusiasts. Join
us for a series of special events planned as part of
our celebration!
