Bedford mom Gretchen Menzies left her job as a social worker to launch www.essentialmom.com, the most robust online resource for Westchester parents that we've found. The site has info on everything from party planning to libraries, babysitter classifieds to event listings. But the child-focused restaurant reviews are still our favorite. Here, Menzies' top five in our area. --D.K
Hogan's Casa Miguel, Mount Kisco. This wonderful Mexican restaurant's varied kids' menu (burgers, chicken fingers, quesadillas, nachos) will appease even the pickiest eaters. The waitstaff always has warm smiles and talks to the children.
The Blazer Pub, Purdys. Despite the bar atmosphere, this is as family-friendly as you can get. It is loud, crowded, and no one will notice your baby flinging toys. Kids will love the games and juke box, so bring your spare quarters.
121, North Salem. 121 is a killer restaurant and bar with my favorite food in Westchester. Asian-influenced dishes include crispy duck rolls and bok choy salad. Take the kids early or sit
downstairs in their less formal pizza area. FYI, bring a bag of toys.
Mount Fuji Sushi, Mount Kisco. At this casual Japanese eatery, sliding doors give you privacy and other diners peace and quiet! Ask for special children's chopsticks.
Il Forno, Somers. If your kids only eat pizza and pasta, this is the place for you. Bring along the grandparents, for a nice change from arcades and fast food!
