May 19th Benefit Event
Showcases Six of the
Area's Most Distinctive Homes.
Following last
year's highly successful Captain
Merritt's Hill Historic Home Tour, this year's encore
event is set for Friday, May 19th. With the winning
combination of distinctive architecture and
beautifully decorated interiors, the unique walking
tour of homes will welcome hundreds of
visitors to this turn-of-the-20th-century gem of a
neighborhood in the heart of Mount Kisco, New York.
Six unique Colonial, Victorian and Tudor style
homes will be available to tour from 9:30 a.m. to
1:30 p.m. Event proceeds will benefit the Mount
Kisco Elementary School Association, a non-profit
organization that provides extra-curricular
enrichment to the public school's 500 students.
The featured homes, most built in the late 1800s
and
early 1900s, range from stately Colonials to
gingerbread-frilled Queen Anne Victorians to classic
Tudors. These elegant residences boast period
details such as towers, turrets and wrap-around
porches, bay windows, gingerbread and bric-a brac,
beamed ceilings, carved oak woodwork, plaster cove
moldings, inlaid floors, and stained glass. Each
different in style, the featured homes display
stunning examples of enduring craftsmanship not
generally found in modern construction.
The event includes a
breakfast, a goody bag for each participant, and a
fabulously popular raffle open to the community at
large. The community's participating event sponsors
include
Black Dragon Marshall Arts, Saw Mill Club, Desires by
Mikolay Jewelers, Flying Pig Restaurant and the
Hollow Brook Golf Course.

FUN, FOOD, AND FESTIVITIES AT FAMILY FUN
DAY! Family Fun Day, an annual fundraising event
for East Coast Assistance Dogs (ECAD), will be held
in Chappaqua on April 30th. Family Fun Day features
many kids' games with exciting prizes, and
activities like face painting, jumping castles, a splash
booth, and arts and crafts. For the adults, there will
be a raffle, silent auction, great food, and much
more! Admission is a donation of $10 per family, which
includes ten tickets to activities.
ECAD helps people with various disabilities gain
greater independence and mobility through the use of
specially trained dogs. There will be Service
Dog demonstrations throughout the day so attendees
can see how dogs help people with a variety of tasks
like balancing, retrieving, turning on lights, and pulling
wheelchairs. Attendees will be able to meet some of
the service dogs, trainers, and Service Dog recipients.
ECAD also works with at-risk teens in alternative
high schools who learn to teach Assistance Dogs.
The organization then places the trained dogs with
individuals with disabilities, allowing them to live with
independence. For each of them, ECAD provides a
new beginning. Inspiring them all is the love of a
dog. As one ECAD client wrote: Our journey was
long, the program amazing. We learned it was ok to
not be ok. We were given companions to help with
our limits. A loving assistant to be there to help.
No judgment, no guilt and no need to feel needy.
Please help support ECAD by coming to Family
Fun Day. The event takes place on Sunday, April 30,
2006 in Chappaqua, NY at 400 King St. (corner of
Rte. 117 and 120), 12:00 to 4:00 pm.
