  • Bedford Historical Society Treasure Hunt

Join us for a family-oriented, fun event for children in Historic Bedford Village, September 9, 2006!

The 90th anniversary of the Bedford Historical Society marks BHS's first purchase, which was to buy Historical Hall in 1916. The day will include a fun, family day followed by a cocktail party in the evening-- a little something for everyone!

Colonial-themed music will echo across the historic Village Green in Bedford, New York, on September 9, 2006 when the Bedford Historical Society kicks off its Bedford Village Treasure Hunt, designed to both educate and entertain kids of all ages.

Several historic buildings and sites will be decorated for easy identification, and each stop will feature a Colonial garbed volunteer who will present brief highlights of the building and its place in Bedford's history.

Each child will receive a laminated map as an easy guide on the Hunt, and, at each stop, they will receive a 'treasure' relevant to the history or architecture of the building.

"By making it challenging, fun and rewarding at the same time, we know that both kids and their parents will enjoy the Hunt and the chance to learn more about this very special place," said Stacy Albanese, chairperson of the event.

"In addition to the Colonial music, we will have Colonial games, farm animals and maybe even a pony ride. Plus, lunch will be available from local stores," she added.

Bedford Village Treasure Hunt, September 9, 2006, 10 am to 2 pm. Rain or shine. Starts at Historical Hall, Bedford Village, New York. No charge to participate.

    Heavenly Skies & Lullabies

Dr. Kathleen Reilly Fallon is a foot and ankle surgeon who was working in midtown Manhattan on September 11, 2001. She volunteered her time at St. Paul's Chapel near Ground Zero to care for injured firefighters and police officers. She was heavily affected by what she saw in those days and her experience led her to consider the many women and children affected in the aftermath of any tragedy.

Dr. Fallon has since created "Heavenly Skies & Lullabies", an Illustrated Song Book & CD which will be released on the 1st Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. The book is dedicated to children throughout the World. This year, 100% of all net proceeds will go to the children affected by Hurricane Katrina. It is her hope that in years to continue that this book will help different children all around the world.

The book was created by Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon & Frank Pellegrino (Actor on The Sopranos/Owner of Rao's Italian Restaurant in NYC), The book was illustrated by Becky Kelly. The foreword was written by Fr. Gerard Critch.

There will be a 9-11 Memorial Mass & 1st Year Anniversary Mass for Hurricane Katrina on Friday, September 8, 2006 @ 7:30pm at St. John the Baptist Church, 670 Yonkers Avenue, Yonkers, NY. This is our 5th memorial mass for 9-11 and has raised over $16,000 for the Twin Tower Orpan Funds from grants, donations, and selling "Heavenly Lullabies" CD's. The Celebrant of the Mass will be Fr. Gerard Critch. There will be a reception & book signing to follow after the Mass. For more information, visit www.heavenlylullabies.org
