MKDCC Feed Me Fresh
OK, I seriously promise this is the last mention of
Feed Me Fresh-- but this is your very last chance to
get in on
the action Saturday, September 30, 2006 and you do
NOT want to miss out.
Feed me Fresh is a fantastic event, filled with
music, fabulous food, and great people. The event
benefits the Mount Kisco Day Care Center, an
incredible
facility providing day care services to a wide range of
ethnically, financially, and even geographically
diverse children. Families from all over Northern
Westchester choose this day care for the amazing
programs it provides, from a literacy adventures
program which brings families to different sites in the
community in an effort to encourage literacy and a
love of reading, to their intergenerational program
which allows seniors and children to interact, to their
edible education program which promotes healthy
eating through farming practices, cooking skills, and
family engagement. These fundraising events help
the center to reach children no matter their ability to
pay and helps to provide EACH child attending with
an excellent education and a leg up as they enter
school in later years.
On Saturday, September 30, 2006, the Mount
Kisco Day Care Center is hosting their second annual
Feed Me Fresh event at Daisy Hill Farm in Bedford
Corners. Last year the event brought over 250
people together in a gorgeous field under a tent to
celebrate the services that the Day Care Center
provides and raised almost $80,000-- this year we
want to pack that tent again and raise even more
funds and awareness for the Center so that all
children can have the ability to reap the benefits of
their services.
I know the cause alone is worthwhile, but to
tempt you further, I will tell you that the event is
held in the most beautiful setting and includes
tastings from the county's most interesting,
inventive, and talented chefs, with their ingredients
gathered from the best local farms and farmers
available. The chef list reads like a Best of
Westchester invite with: Stephen Briganti from 121
Restaurant, Mark Feldman from Mrs.
Green's, Myong Feiner from Myong's Private Label
Gourmet, Rafael
Palomino of Pacifico and Sonora, Simeon
Manber from Connie's Bakery and General Store,
Kevin Bertrand of Crabtree’s Kittle House, &
Deberah Sutter of The Flying Pig, all cooking,
providing tastings, and talking to guests about their
menus and incorporating local foods into their
cooking.
Tastings will also be provided of various cheeses,
produce, desserts, chocolates, milks, toffee, and
more-- you will leave stuffed and happy and maybe a
even a little more knowledgeable about various
local resources and goodies for use in your own
culinary creations!
The night is fun, the crowd is great, and the food
and music will delight you. If you haven't sent in
your response form, please do, if you lost it in your
summer mail, download the attached invite, print it
out and send it right in so we can save a space for
you! If you don't want to be bothered with the
return form, you can email or call in your credit card
as well-- contact Alex Gordevitch at agla@mkdcc.org
or 914.241.2135.

Denim & Dice Las Vegas Night
Join the Mount Kisco Elementary School community
on September 30th for "Denim & Dice" Las Vegas
Night to benefit a new Mount Kisco Elementary
School playground. This First-Time Event Welcomes
All!!!
Parents at Mount Kisco Elementary School are
rolling the dice and hoping that the upcoming
"Denim & Dice" Las Vegas Night will be a big winner
for the school's new playground
effort. Slated for Saturday, September 30th, this
community-wide adult fundraising event at the
Knights of Columbus Hall in Mount Kisco features a
variety of gaming tables run by professional casino
dealers and a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament. All
members of the
community are invited to support the playground
project by attending the event or donating
goods for its silent auction.
Denim & Dice tickets, which include hot and cold
hors d'oeuvres, an open bar and $20 in
game chips, are $75 per person. Proceeds will benefit
Mount Kisco Elementary School's new
playground, to be located behind the school's
cafeteria. A "community build" is targeted for
later this fall, with parent and community members
pitching in to significantly defray
construction costs of the colorful, vinyl–coated steel
and plastic composite play structure.
"This is an amazing group of parents and
community members," said Denim & Dice event
chair Ann DiChiara. "When it comes to our school and
our children, they don't hesitate to do
what it takes."
A Community Working Together:
Over the past several years, the parent
playground committee on which DiChiara sits has
raised
thousands of dollars for the previous and upcoming
playgrounds-- monies which supplement
larger funding from the Bedford Central School
District. Noted DiChiara, "The district
recognizes the need to provide our school's five
hundred children with well-designed and
dynamic playgrounds, particularly since our outdoor
space is so limited."
The playground construction, slated for late
October or early November of this year, will
require four shifts of fifty volunteers each to
complete. The school's playground committee is
asking parents, staff, community members and
merchants to take an active role and they are
responding. Additional needs include post hole
diggers, cement, two by fours, duct tape and
food for the hungry volunteers. "The more we can do
ourselves or get donated," said parent-teacher
organization co-chair Suzanne Grant, "the more of
our budget we can devote to
enhancing the playground equipment."
