Elana Lamster's Open Letter to the
Community: "As part of my Bat Mitzvah
preparation at
Larchmont Temple, I would like to invite the
community to join me in a charity event to benefit
Locks of Love on April 14 at Everything's Hair at 1258
Boston Post Road. Locks of Love is a not-for-profit
organization that uses hair donations to make wigs for
children who suffer hair loss as a result of cancer
treatments.
For those of you who are not familiar with what a
mitzvah project is, it is an act to contribute to the
community and to help the less fortunate as part of
becoming a Jewish adult. I specifically chose this as
my mitzvah project because part of the Torah relates
to a group of people who were not allowed to cut their
hair. I thought a project relating to this would be a
good choice.
A lot of my friends hear about Locks of Love events
after they have happened so I want to let people know
ahead of time to get a good turn out. I want to make a
big difference for this charity. This way, those who
may not have thought about cutting their hair can join
us, and together we make an even bigger difference.
Once the 10 inches of hair is cut, each stylist at
Everything’s Hair will style the participants hair in the
style of their choice. For those who cannot donate
hair, monetary donations will be accepted too. We will
also have refreshments and there will be face painting
too!"
*To reserve a seat contact Everything's Hair, (914)
833-9522 or everythingshair@hotmail.com. Walk-ins
accepted too-- just stop by!

Lunar Landing or Trip Around the Block?
|
|
Our favorite Dad writer, Christopher, brings us more of his
witty Dadisms with his newest article "Lunar Landing"
about traveling with small folk...I thought this was a
great week to share the fun-- with Easter vacation at the
forefront of my thinking...enjoy!
"Like Kennedy making his unplanned remarks
about
putting man on the moon, one of you
declares: "maybe we ought a take a trip?" Tentatively,
a spouse peers over the mountain of toys in awed
silence, and like Kennedy's aides, they digest this
bold proposal: "take the family to the moon, of all
places, amid such already hectic scheduling?"
The bold thought made public however, demands
conversation. The who's, where's, when's, why's, and,
how's are discussed. Ideas bandy about from the
comforts of home. You discuss leaving your sanctuary
of convenient plenty to embark out there...
Next thing you know, you're arranging the
mission..."
