"If you have been brought up all your
life,
being told
you have wonderful choices, you tend, when things go
wrong, to assume you made the wrong choices..."
--Judith Warner --
Marie Laguerre-Lewis and Nicole Aliev of
Motherhood and Self reach out to moms who are at
the point in their lives where they are assessing, and
in many cases, criticizing the choices they have
made.
Whether they work outside the home or not,
women have to answer the same question: how do I
provide the best care for my family? This issue is not
only heavily influenced by personal values and
situations, but also by judgment from the media,
relatives, and in some cases, other moms. In the
workplace, success is dependent on efficiency, and
on how little family life 'interferes' with productivity. At
home, the pressure for moms is to be as close to
perfect as possible to 'justify' the personal choices
they have made.
The many roles women play out (partner, family
member, friend, lover) all serve to shape how mothers
critique themselves. From these thoughts comes an
individual reality that influences behavior and self
worth. However, this reality is actually fluid. Behavior
and self image can be positively shifted by changing
perceptions and opinions about one's self.
Motherhood and Self coaches women in breaking
down the internal and external factors that influence
their experiences of being a mother. In the
workshops, participants find not only commonality and
community, but begin a deeply personal journey.
Mothers come away with a greater understanding of
the factors that shape or break their confidence as a
parent, spouse, professional and woman. They are
also given the tools to design a manageable and
realistic action plan to achieve greater balance and
build on the passions in their life.
If coming to a Motherhood and Self workshop is
not on your resolutions list, it should be.
Cost: $125 for workshop, materials, and one free
post-workshop coaching session.
