Talk n Drum

Speak a new language to beat of the drum!

From birth all children have the ability to hear the unique sounds of all languages and with regular exposure can learn to comprehend and speak a few languages with the correct accents. This ability however, weakens at about age 8 therefore the best time to teach language is from birth to six years old.

Talk n Drum Foreign Language and Music Program for Preschoolers is a new and innovative method of teaching language through drumming, singing, chanting and movement. It is a 'reading ready' program that develops fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, focus and listening skills, and the musical ear through fun multi sensory activities. Most importantly Talk n Drum teaches inclusion through language and community. Talk n Drum currently is being included in preschool, nursery and learning center curriculums throughout Westchester, Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Yorktown residents and creators of Talk n Drum Nanette Garcia and Maurice Minichino are now organizing classes in Yorktown Heights this fall and will be offering FREE demo classes in Spanish and Italian.

Visit Talk n Drum at www.talkndrum.com to see what all the FUN is about!!

For more information on the program, location and schedule of our FREE demo classes send us an email: talkndrum@verizon.net or call: 914 245-5655.

Get the culinary credit you deserve!

Whether our children recognize it or not, moms around the world possess the recipes that spawn culinary genius everywhere. You can say what you like about the professional chefs on television-- but would they be able to mix up that special sauce with a toddler climbing up their leg to play 'horsey', or bake that glorious cake while feeding a baby and answering a phone call?

We think not.

So we're calling all cooks to share the wealth....

Kathy Boyle, of Chapin Hill Advisors, is putting together a cookbook of recipes from local Westchester County women. We're looking for your favorite authentic, super secret recipes that preferably use healthy foods, are relatively simple to make as well as an anecdote about the recipe.

Send us your recipes along with a quip about the recipe: 'This was my grandmother's favorite', or, 'my family begs me to make this every week'. Include a short profile of the cook and get the credit you deserve for the work you put in every day! 'Martini is Irish, loves to bake, has 3 children, 5, 15, 17 years with her English hubby, Barry and they live in Katonah. Etc.'

The first version of our cookbook will include 25 of the best recipes of those we collect, with only 50 copies being produced. Each person who has a recipe chosen for the book will receive a copy of the finished product. The rest of the books will be given to the first 25 attendees at a "Beauty Inside and Out" event on October 13th (look for your invite through Essentialmom in the next few weeks).

To submit a recipe, please sign the release and email your recipe with your anecdote as well as short profile to kboyle@chapinhill.com.
